Speakers and Panelists:
- Zifa Wang, Director and Research Professor, Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration
- Wang spent more than 12 years studying and working in Japan and the USA before returning to China in 2003. He is currently the chief scientist for the key national research program entitled "Earthquake Damage and Control of Urban Infrastructures", and a review committee member for Natural Science Foundation of China. He also serves as the Secretary General of the scientific committee for the 14th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering to be held in Beijing on October 12-17, 2008.

- David Friedman, Senior Principal, Forell/Elsesser Engineers
- Friedman is a consulting structural and earthquake engineer with 33 years of professional experience. He was the building engineering representative on the just completed EERI/GEER reconnaissance team.
- Gretchen Kalonji, Director of International Strategy Development, UC Office of the President
- Kalonji leads a major research and educational initiative with Chinese partner universities called the “10+10”. She organized and led a delegation of UC faculty members and other California partners to Sichuan, to explore collaborations on a wide variety of multi-disciplinary earthquake–related relief and recovery topics.

- Edwin Lee, San Francisco City Administrator
- Lee is the coordinator of San Francisco’s China Earthquake Technical Partnership that has been established as a joint public-private effort to assemble and share the seismic engineering, design and recovery expertise and experience available in San Francisco with the Chinese Government for recovery efforts. He will be assisted in this effort by Vivian Day, the newly appointed Director of the Department of Building Inspection.
- Marshal Lew, Senior Principal and Vice President, MACTEC Engineering and Consulting
- Lew is a practicing geotechnical engineer with over 30 years of experience. He is on TPAC for the Tall Buildings Initiative of PEER and also is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of EERI. He was the team leader for the EERI/GEER reconnaissance team.

- Raymond Lui, Deputy Director and Manager of Plan Review Services, City of San Francisco Department of Building Inspection
- Lui is a licensed CA Structural Engineer with nearly 20 years of experience. He is also structural specialist with the FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue, California Task Force Three; State Chair of the SEAOC Disaster Emergency Services Committee; and a member of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
- Steve Mahin, Professor of Structural Engineering, University of California Berkeley
- Mahin’s teaching and research focus is on the design of buildings, bridges and other structures to better withstand the effects of severe earthquakes. He has participated in field investigations following more than two dozen earthquakes, and at the request of the US National Science Foundation, lead a panel of US experts that worked with Chinese and Japanese experts to identify research needs related to the Wenchuan earthquake.

- Khalid Mosalam, Professor of Structural Engineering, University of California Berkeley
- Mosalam teaches courses in finite element analysis, behavior and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. He is a recipient of the 2006 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize for advanced computational research integrated with large experiments to solve practical structural engineering problems. He was a member of the UC Delegation to Sichuan.

- Joseph Sun, Principal Geotechnical Engineer, PG&E Geosciences Department
- Sun has been working in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering for the past 20 years specializing in seismic performance of embankment dams. Currently he is responsible for the seismic retrofit design of Crane Valley Dam on behalf of PG&E. He was a member of the PG&E delegation to Sichuan related to geological and geotechnical engineering.
