PEER Lab Test - Caltrans-Design Bridge Column
In typical design practice, torsion of columns under earthquake loading is often ignored. The degree to which torsion reduces bridge safety, because of reduced deformation/ductility capacity, is unclear. This research project will identify the effects of torsion on the plastic hinge ductility of bridge columns and recommend analysis models and design approaches.

Shaking Table Test on a Nonductile Concrete Frame
We completed Shaking Table tests on a nonductile concrete frame this past Thursday, February 16, 2006. The structure is a three-bay by three-story plane frame. Half the frame has pre-1976 UBC ordinary details and the other half has ductile details - the odd mix is to slow down the collapse so we can observe the behavior in more detail.
