Project Summary
This NEES Grand Challenge Project brings together researchers, educators, engineers, and public policy experts in a five-year program to develop effective strategies for identifying seismically hazardous older concrete building construction and promoting effective mitigation strategies.
Research consists in four areas:- - Pilot studies of risk in existing cities
- - Laboratory and field testing of components and structures
- - Model development
- - Development of mitigation strategies
- - Training of undergraduate and graduate students
- - Development of education materials for students and practitioners
- - The Concrete Coalition
- - Advisory panels
- - Workshops
The project was initiated in January 2007 and will continue through December 2012.
