Geotechnical Site Investigation at Electrical Sub-Stations

Project Description and Objectives

"The August 17, 1999 Kocaeli, Turkey earthquake (Mw = 7.4) caused an immediate, countrywide blackout of the transmission system due to high-voltage substation damage and power plants tripping off."*
"Nine transmission substations suffered damage or disruption to transformers, switching equipment, and buildings. All damage was associated with strong shaking"*
The primary goal of this study is to document the geotechnical conditions prevailing under those electrical substations were the damage may be related to the subsoil conditions.
