Project Title/ID Number | Practitioner Critique of PEER Bridge Analysis Methodology—3322002 |
Start/End Dates | 10/1/02—9/30/03 |
Project Leader | William Nascimento (LAN/Industrial Collaborator) |
Team Members | Mohan Char (LAN/Industrial Collaborator) |
Project goals and objectives |
Review Assessment and Design Methodologies of Performance Based Earthquake Engineering developed by PEER with emphasis on practical design applicability. |
Role of this project in supporting PEER’s vision |
Ensure professionals
can implement developments in everyday design. In order to realize this
mission, we need industry professionals that are proficient with current
seismic design methodology so that they can provide valuable insight
into improving the PBEE methodology for industry wide application. |
Methodology employed |
Compare PBEE Methodology developed by PEER researchers with standard industry practice using the common testbed. |
Brief description of past year’s accomplishments and more detail on expected Year 6 accomplishments |
No work performed before. Year 6 is our first year on the project. |
Other similar work being conducted within and outside PEER and how this project differs |
PBEE is a new methodology still in the early phase of development. Within PEER, we are coordinating our efforts with the researchers involved. |
Plans for Year 7 if this project is expected to be continued |
If project is continued for Year 7, we plan to apply the PBEE methodology to a number of our bridges that have already undergone seismic retrofit based on existing seismic design criteria to determine its impact, and provide additional recommendations to PEER. |
Describe any instances where you are aware that your results have been used in industry |
Year 6 is the first year that PEER is seeking input from the Industry Practitioners on the PBEE methodology. Recommendations from the practitioners would help fine tune the PBEE methodology so it could be modified for suitability in industry wide applications. |
Expected milestones |
Complete review and recommendations by Sept 30, 2003. |
Deliverables |
Report outlining comments and recommendations. |
