The Strong Motion Instrumentation Program (SMIP) of the California Geological Survey will host a one-day seminar on utilization of strong-motion data at the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

The goals of the SMIP annual seminar are to (1) increase the utilization of strong-motion data in improving post-earthquake response, seismic code provisions, and design practices; and (2) transfer recent research findings on strong-motion data to practicing seismic design professionals, earth scientists, and earthquake response personnel. This year the seminar will include presentations on the ground and building motions in the M9.0 Tohoku, Japan earthquake and other recent earthquakes, tall building instrumentation in Los Angeles, modeling of port structure and bridge response, and the proposed California early earthquake warning system.
