EERI Post Graduation Internship Program - Now Accepting Applicants for Summer 2010

The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) has two internships available for recent college graduates or graduate students interested in gaining valuable relevant professional experience while supporting the Institute’s mission.

Both positions will assist on a number of interesting EERI projects including the Concrete Coalition, the World Housing Encyclopedia, the Confined Masonry Network, the straw bale tutorial, the Learning from Earthquakes Program, the Mitigation Center and the USGS PAGER project. In addition the interns will help with other EERI activities such as the 9th U.S. Earthquake Conference, technical seminars and various publications. Tasks are varied and include some website data entry and maintenance, data analysis and research, and basic organizational tasks.

Desirable education and background include a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, familiarity with structural or geotechnical engineering, proficiency in Excel and WORD, some knowledge of website development and maintenance or willingness to learn, a flexible attitude towards work, initiative, curiosity, and strong interpersonal skills. Each intern will be provided a monthly stipend ($1,200/month).

EERI Post Graduation internships are a great way to gain valuable professional experience, to be involved in meaningful projects related to seismic safety and to make critical contacts with others in the profession. The EERI office is located in downtown Oakland, close to BART and the freeway.

Applications received by May 26th will be considered for two four-month internship positions starting on June 14th.
