PEER Researchers Kramer and Mayfield awarded 2009 ASCE Norman Medal
Steven Kramer, professor of geotechnical engineering at the University of Washington and PEER researcher, and his coauthor Roy Mayfield, a consulting engineer and former graduate researcher assistant at the University of Washington, received the ASCE Norman Medal for 2009. Their paper entitled “Return Period of Soil Liquefaction,” describes a performance-based approach to the evaluation of liquefaction potential, and shows how it can be used to account for the entire range of potential ground shaking.
