2008 PEER Summer Interns contribute to research related to nonductile concrete
Two 2008 summer interns were supported by PEER's NEES Grand Challenge Project: Mitigation of Nonductile Concrete Risk. Students Michael Barnes, a UC Berkeley undergraduate student, and Sebastien Jigorel, an intern from France's Ecole Nationale des Travaux Publics (Public Works) de l'Etat, under the supervision of PEER Director Jack Moehle, designed, constructed, and tested a nonductile concrete column-beam joint specimen to investigate the failure mechanism from seismic loading. Through this testing the students learned how to design and construct a test specimen, develop testing protocols, and collect and interpret test data.
