Moehle and Elwood Receive ACI's Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research

Professor Jack Moehle and former student Ken Elwood (University of British Columbia) received the Chester P. Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research from the American Concrete Institute for their work on modeling axial load collapse of damaged reinforced concrete columns (summarized in the ACI Structural Journal paper "Axial Capacity Model for Shear-Damaged Column", July 2005). The Siess Award is given to the author or authors of a peer-reviewed paper published by the American Concrete Institute that describes a notable achievement in experimental or analytical research that advances the theory or practice of structural engineering and, most importantly, recommends how the research can be applied to design. The award need not be presented each year.
