Working Meeting: Finite-Fault Simulations, Dec. 11 2012

Meeting topic: Progress update and discussion on finite-fault simulation validation exercise (Task E)

The validation exercise initiated in 2011 has been completely re-hauled into a more cohesive project to better address the needs of various stakeholders, including NGA-East. Many of the input parameters have been fixed and uniform post-processing schemes have been defined to allow a better comparison of simulation results. The purpose of this working meeting is to review recent progress on the validation of existing ground motion simulation methods and to define the path forward for 2013. We will first present the role of the validation and simulations in NGA-East and follow with the new validation protocol. Various modelers will present preliminary results of validation as well as the limitations and issues encountered so far. Results include validation against A. scenario events (Loma Prieta, Northridge, Whittier and Saguenay) and B. NGA-West1 GMPEs (2008).
