NGA-East is making continued progress on many scientific aspects of the project and will host Working Meetings on October 16 and December 11. While the original plan was to have a SSHAC Workshop on Oct 16-18 2012, it would be premature to host such a formal SSHAC workshop at that time. Thus, NGA-East will make use of Working Meetings (also part of the SSHAC process) to host science discussions until the science part of the project is completed.
Upcoming Working Meetings
October 16, 2012 (Path/Source and Geotech Working Groups)
Progress and discussion will cover the following areas:
– Site amplification models (part of Task B)
– Regionalization of crustal structure & attenuation properties in CENA (part of Task C)
Note: the formal SSHAC Workshop on Oct 16-18 is replaced with this single day Working Meeting.
December 11, 2012 (Simulation Working Group)
Discussion about finite-fault simulation validation results.
Note: this meeting will be followed by the USGS National Seismic Hazard Mapping Program (NSHMP) Ground Motions Workshop for the CEUS on Dec 12 and for WUS on Dec 13.

Why the change to the Working Meeting format?
The SSHAC Workshops operate following three main themes that are linked to specific objectives and are associated with clear rules on who gets to interact. The official SSHAC Workshops with theme 2 (Proponent Discussions of Alternative Interpretations) and 3 (Presentation and Feedback on Proposed Models) will be scheduled at a later date. On the other hand, Working Meetings are more informal and allow science discussions in a much more open type of forum. A larger number of people can participate in the discussions. The NGA-East project team expects to host more Working Meetings as specific tasks are making further progress.
