Fenves Named President of UT at Austin

Gregory Fenves, member of the National Academy of Engineering, has been elected President of the University of Texas at Austin, effective June 3, 2015.  After three weeks as sole finalist for the position, he was elevated by the University of Texas System Board of Regents’ vote of 8-0 with one abstention.

Fenves was at PEER until 2008, when he provided active leadership since PEER’s inception in 1996 as Associate Director, founding director of PEER’s Lifelines Program and Business and Industry Partner Program, developer of PEER’s comprehensive modeling software platform OpenSees, and as a member of the PEER Research Committee.  Fenves is former chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the UC Berkeley, and Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Texas at Austin since 2013.
